In a posting via its Twitter profile, the ministry expressed the hope that peace would prevail and called on the parties in conflict to effectively implement the peace roadmap.

The 13-point agreement, reached after 17 hours of talks, foresees a ceasefire in the Donets Basin area in eastern Ukraine starting on Sunday.

The next step would be the withdrawal of heavy weapons from conflict areas, which would enable the creation of a buffer zone.

Both sides are to release all prisoners, and Ukraine would take control over the international border by the year's end.
