"Here For You", a danceable tune that is as much inspired by Duffy as it pays homage to Slovenia's Eurosong tradition of strong female leads, beat Rudi Bučar's folksy "Šaltinka" in a televote.

The win is no surprise given Raay's track record. After all, he was also the songwriter for last year's entrant Tinkara Kovač and their song topped the Slovenian airplay charts in 2014.

He also found commercial success as a performer, most notably as a member of the turbo-folk troupes Tubo Angels and Tangels, both ventures undertaken with his wife.

Maraaya was considered by critics as perhaps the most "Eurovision-y" song, combining high-level production with a lively beat and an upbeat vibe.

The music critic in Večer newspaper described it as "Very British, a good package."
