Slovenia to Promote Ljubljana at Berlin Tourism Fair
Ljubljana was declared the European Green Capital 2016 last June for its sustainability strategy and its implementation of a range of urban green measures.
Meanwhile, the Tastes of Ljubljana, a project promoting traditional and up-to-date dishes typical of the capital at 60 restaurants around the city, turned Ljubljana into one of Europe's culinary hot spots, according to Turizem Ljubljana.
Slovenia as a whole will meanwhile be presented under the slogan "Slovenia. Green. Active. Healthy", as a country which boasts many spas and has a diverse tourist offering, the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology said in a press release.
A total of 19 companies will be presented on a surface area of 172 square metres under the "I feel Slovenia" brand. Among them will be several spas, the operator of the Postojna cave, one of Slovenia's most popular tourist destinations, and several hotels.
On the sidelines of the presentation, Economic Development and Technology Minister Zdravko Počivalšek will meet several of Slovenia's key partners in tourism on Wednesday.
On the same day, Secretary-General of the United Nations' World Tourism Organization Taleb Rifai is scheduled to visit Slovenia's exhibition area.
A Slovenian reception, promoting Ljubljana's culinary delights, wine and music, will be held in the evening and will be addressed by the economy minister.
On Thursday, Minister Počivalšek, Germany's Fraport, the new owner of airport operator Aerodrom Ljubljana, Slovenian flag carrier Adria Airways and the SPIRIT agency for the promotion of enterprise and tourism will hold a joint press conference.
Last year, some 170,000 people visited the ITB fair, including 114,000 business representatives, and 6,000 journalists and bloggers.
Over 10,000 exhibitors from 189 countries were presented on a surface area of 160,000 square metres. Organisers assess the value of the deals closed at the fair at EUR 6.5bn.
