Renovation of Ljubljana Airport Terminal Finally "In Sight"

Talking to the STA on the sidelines of an international conference on privatisation on Tuesday, Skobir said that renovation was planned to tackle "bottlenecks" at the check-in and security control points.

Also planned is an expansion and modernisation of passenger areas such as hospitality services, Skobir said, adding that terminal renovation could start next year, if everything goes according to plans.

"In the next phase a plan will flow - in accordance with turnout growth - for a second terminal, which will probably be a bit different than the exiting one," Skobir said.

There has been speculation whether the new owner will back the management's plan for a new passenger terminal after the original plan fell through at the 2013 shareholders' meeting in which the state as a majority owner did not have a voting right.

Skobir said that after the squeeze-out of small shareholders a shareholders' meeting is to follow; Aerodrom will be taken off the stock market and transform into a limited liability company.

Aerodrom generated a net profit of EUR 338,606 in the first two months of the year, handling 149,907 passengers, figures that Skobir suggested were below expectations due to lower-than-expected occupancy at flag carrier Adria Airways.

Skobir expects the airport to post 4-6% growth in turnout this year, the feasibility of which can be better assessed in May or June.

As the Ljubljana airport shifts to the summer timetable, it will also welcome Swiss Air, while Turkish Airlines will increase the number of flights to Istanbul.

Finnish airline Finnair will also be flying to the airport during the summer and Adria Airways will launch flights between Stockholm and Berlin.

Asked about the sale of the aircraft maintenance firm Adria Airways Tehnika, which is co-owned by Aerodrom and the state-run PDP enterprise, Skobir said an effort would be made to complete the sale procedure by the end of March at the request of the most serious buyer, which he would not disclose.

"The interest in the acquisition has in the meantime increased, with the arrival of an additional bidder. We're in no hurry as the company is doing well at the moment," he said.
