The centre provides cloud services on servers based in Slovenia. It is a part of a project that will see IBM set up 42 such data centres across the world.

"We proved that we are capable of covering the broader region, not only Slovenia," said Julij Božič, the executive director of IBM Slovenia, which employs 220 people.

This was also echoed by David La Rose, IBM general manager for Central and Eastern Europe, who said that Slovenia had many innovations to be proud of and that the centre was a recognition of quality of the Slovenian team.

Božič has said at the launch of the IBM Data Centre that this was the third such investment by IBM in Slovenia in the recent years. The company launched an innovation centre in 2011 and a smart cities demo room in 2014.
