Foreign-Born Population with 2.4 Points Higher Jobless Rate
The unemployment rate among the population aged between 15 and 64 born in the former Yugoslav republics, which represents the bulk of the foreign-born population in Slovenia, stood at 12% in the second quarter of 2014.
The average unemployment rate for the entire Slovenian population in this period stood at 9.5%, which was also the rate for the foreign-born population in Slovenia born outside the former Yugoslav republics.
According to the data collected in the 2011 census, 90% of the foreign-born population in Slovenia was born in a former Yugoslav republic, and almost two-thirds of them had Slovenian citizenship at the time of the census.
In the observed period, 11% of the population aged between 15 and 64 was foreign-born, with the main reason for emigrating to Slovenia being work, family or education.
The labour participation rate for the foreign-born population was 60.6%, which was 4.3 percentage points lower than the rate for the Slovenian-born population. It was even lower for the population born in a former Yugoslav republic (60.1%).
