The show, dubbed "Hommage a Picasso" features 42 of his etchings, aquatints, lithographies, woodcuts and linocuts and 71 original prints by his contemporaries and other acclaimed artists.

The total of 69 artists featured include Joan Miro, Andy Warhol, Victor Vasarely, Frank Stella, Antoni Tapies, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Joseph Beuys, Henry Moore, Hans Hartung and Robert Rauschenberg.

The artists created the works displayed between 1972 and 1975 for Picasso's 90th anniversary at the initiative of Austrian art historian and critic Wieland Schmied.

Each of them made a work entitled Hommage to Picasso in their own particular style and a technique that best suited their artistic expression.

The exhibition also offers an exceptional opportunity to appreciate Picasso's various phases.

A painter, graphic artist and sculptor, Picasso (1881-1973), is considered to be a co-founder of the Cubist movement, along with Georges Braque, and its main representative.

The show has been put on at the castle in the town of Lendava as part of a project called the Giants of Fine Arts. The works displayed come from the collection of Richard H. Mayer of Bamberg.

Last year Lendava Castle hosted an exhibition of prints by Francisco de Goya, the year before those by Rembrandt and in 2011 works by Czech painter and graphic artist Alphonse Maria Mucha.
