Dun is bringing his Martial Arts Trilogy project, which includes his music from the films Hero, The Banquet and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. He will be conducting the Ljubljana Philharmonic Orchestra, organisers announced on Wednesday.

Penderecki, a leading 20th century Polish conductor, will be in Ljubljana on 6 July. Considered a pioneer of modern music, Penderecki will be performing one his key works, the Polish Requiem.

Meanwhile, Gubaidulina's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, performed by the Young German Philharmonic Orchestra, will close the festival. Gubaidulina, one of whose pieces was already performed at the festival last year, is seen as one of the most important Russian composers after Dmitri Shostakovich.

Also returning is the Mariinsky Theatre from Saint Petersburg, which will present its version of Romeo and Juliet. In line with tradition, Richard Wagner is on the programme as well, this time with Tristan and Isolde performed by the Sofia National Opera and Ballet ensemble.

Highlights by Slovenian performers include the Fobia dance performance put on stage by EnKnapGroup together with Club Guy & Roni from the Netherlands, two contemporary dance shows signed by Edward Clug, and Goethe's Faust by one of the most acclaimed Slovenian theatre directors Tomaž Pandur.

Several popular Slovenian musicians will be performing as well, while the programme also features two musicals - a new production of Mamma Mia! and a repeat of "Cvetje v Jeseni" (Blossoms in Autumn).

Ljubljana Festival director Darko Brlek revealed that the festival will cost EUR 2m.
