FinMin Unhappy SSH Decided to Pass Buck on Telekom

The SSH was established to provide for professional management of state assets, said Mramor, with the purpose of drawing a line between expert and political decisions.

"The decision taken late on Thursday is not compatible with that, nor with the guidelines of the European Commission and OECD on state asset management," he said while taking part in a conference on EU economic recommendations in Ljubljana.

He said the government had not yet met to discuss the decision taken by the SSH, but would do so in the near future.

The SSH proposed that Telekom Slovenije be sold to UK private equity fund Cinven, but left the final decision to the government.

It cited the need for clarification on whether Cinven fits the government's definition of a strategic investor and guarantees for outstanding anti-trust lawsuits facing the telco as the reason for its decision.

Asked whether the government could opt to dispel the doubts held by the SSH and then return the final decision to the holding's management, Mramor said: "This is possible."
