An exhibition of all honoured photos opened in Ljubljana's Cankarjev dom arts centre on Friday.

Zorman caught Fatima Asfour in the middle of the ruins of her flat in Gaza, holding the photographs of her sons, believed to have died in the sinking of a ship along the coast of Malta.

While Zorman and Jazbec received the main overall prizes, the best photos and photo stories were moreover selected in five categories, ranging from sports to culture.

The jury of the sixth edition of the international festival, which began on Tuesday, was comprised of Jerome Delay (AP), Jerome Huffer (Paris Match), Louisa Gouliamaki (AFP), Maral Deghati (Warm, Me-Mo), Gali Tibbon (Canon) and Mathilde Boussion (6Mois).

The exhibition of the best works will be open for slightly over a week.

The next highlight will follow next Monday with a talk by one of the world's leading anti-war photographers James Nachtwey, who is also the recipient of several World Press Photo awards.

The talk will be an introduction to an exhibition of his work entitled Witness. The exhibition, also hosted by Cankarjev dom, will run from 9 June to 17 August.
