Golf has been played in Bled since 1937, while the golf course as it is known today was constructed in 1972, becoming the first golf course in the former Yugoslavia.

Four years later, players who frequented the course established a club, which was also the initiator of the founding of the Golf Association of Slovenia.

The Bled Golf Club currently has 550 members, and almost all Slovenian golfers have been a member at one moment or another.

In addition to NHL star Kopitar and retired skiing legends Košir and Križaj, who are members of the club, the tournament will also feature best Slovenian golfer Tim Gornik, the winner of the 2009 Mediterranean Games.

There are currently twelve golf courses in Slovenia, which serve a total of 47 golf clubs.
