Fabijan was proposed to Pahor, who forwarded the nominee to parliament, by the central bank and the candidate has the necessary support of MPs, Pahor's office said.

Fabijan, whose term expires on 10 September, applied for the post together with Tomaž Klemenc and Primož Simončič.

He is presently one of four vice-governors alongside Darko Bohnec, Stanislava Zadravec Caprirolo and Mejra Festić. Boštjan Jazbec is the governor.
