Slovenia, Cuba Seeking Stronger Ties

It would be good if potential Slovenian investors travel to Cuba and a Cuban delegation visits Slovenia, Cerar told the press.

While Cuba is interested in cooperation in renewables, biotechnology and tourism, Slovenia is also interested in cooperation in health and pharmaceuticals industry.

"We've had successful cooperation in education. It is very important we establish more serious ties," said Cerar, noting that Slovenia needed to look for opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

While the timeline was not specified, Cerar said the visits by delegations could be carried out this year if Slovenian political advisers and experts can determine the key points of potential interest.

He labelled Slovenian-Cuban relations as good, noting that Cuba appreciated Slovenia's efforts in the EU and UN aimed at the mitigation of restrictions that prevent Cuba from developing.

The meeting came at a period of thawing relations between the US and Cuba. Cerar expressed the hope that both countries will muster enough will to lift the blockades.

Commenting on the summit overall, Cerar said it was important that EU and Latin America continue to develop economic, political and cultural ties.

The Slovenian prime minister is also scheduled to meet later today Columbian President Juan Manuel Santos.
