Pride Parade Caps Week of Awareness-Raising

The event aims to show how important it is for everyone who privately values equality and freedom to publicly display their views.

"Sometimes a click is not enough, you have to stand up for your positions with your body," the organisers said.

The Pride Parade Association expects several hundred people will attend, but hopes more than 1,000 will turn up.

The parade will start at 5 PM at alternative arts centre Metelkova mesto and make its way towards the centre of the city.

The highlight will come at 7 PM, when a lesbian couple who have a registered same-sex partnership but want to marry will address the crowd.

Slovenia adopted a law on civil unions for same-sex couples in 2005.

Marriage equality legislation was adopted earlier this year but is yet to enter into force pending a Constitutional Court review.

The Pride Parade Week started last Saturday and featured workshops, panels, film screenings and concerts throughout the week.
