Football: Slovenia Overpowered by England
England retained the perfect slate in qualifying Group E while Slovenia have nine points from six games heading into a long qualifying recess before the encounter against Switzerland on 5 September.
The game statistics show Slovenia was clearly the weaker side, but at least the team of coach Srečko Katanec delivered that they promised - the highlight of this year's football season in the country.
Milivoje Novaković opened the scoring in the 37th minute and Slovenia carried the lead into the half time break.
England came back with goals by Jack Wilshere in the 57th and 73rd.
Slovenia managed a surprise equaliser in the 84th, as Nejc Pečnik put in an unstoppable downward header into the bottom corner.
Slovenia's lead did not last long. Theo Walcott slipped the ball to Wayne Rooney from the middle as the Slovenian defence disintegrated. Rooney delivered the win with a low right-footer into the right corner.
