In the third-place match, Velenšek defeated Natalie Powell of the UK, who conceded the fight to the 24-year-old from Celje at the very end.

This is medal number five for Velenšek at major international competitions, which include bronze from the World Judo Championships in Russia's Chelyabinsk last year.

This is also a third medal for Slovenian judokas at the Baku games, with the first two coming yesterday from Tina Trstenjak in the women's 63-kg category (silver) and Rok Drakšič in the men's 73-kg category (bronze).

The only gold so far for Slovenia at the European Games was won last week by veteran gymnast Sašo Bertoncelj on the pommel horse.
