Govt to Overhaul Expat Cooperation Strategy
"On the one had we will start to overhaul the existing strategy....and on the other, which I think is more important at this moment, we will improve some communication channels," he said in Ptuj.
Minister for Slovenians Abroad Gorazd Žmavc said that there are about half a million Slovenians outside the country's borders.
"They are great ambassadors and people, they defended their identity with persistence and many of they made a name for themselves in their new homelands," said Žmavc.
He added that the government would prepare by the end of the year a plan to boost cooperation with the younger generations of expats.
The meeting was also attended by Boris Pliskovič, the president of the Slovenian World Congress, who believes the government should - among other things - simplify the procedure of educations recognition for those who studied abroad and want to return home.
"Slovenian companies do not know that more more than 1,000 Slovenian students are studying at top universities around the world and are being snatched up by successful foreign companies."
