The bulk of the events at what is the biggest shooting competition in the history of independent Slovenia will take place at the shooting range in Pragersko, which will host the 25m, 50m rifle - pistol, 50m RT and shotgun competitions.

The shooting range in Apače will meanwhile be the scene of the 300m events, which will be executed with the aid of the Slovenian armed forces.

The ceremonial segment of the championships, which will end on 1 August, was already conducted in Maribor on Sunday, featuring the President of the European Shooting Confederation Vladimir Lisin and Defence Minister Andreja Katič among others.

European shooters have come to Slovenia highly motivated, since the championships presents one of the last chances for securing a ticket for the Rio Olympics.

Petra Dobravec is the only Slovenian shooter to secure an Olympic berth so far, but the Slovenian team is hoping to clinch two or three more tickets at the championships, where 21 will be handed out.

Meanwhile, remaining one of Slovenia's main medal hopes is veteran shooter Rajmond Debevec, a winner of three Olympic medals who could qualify for his ninth Olympics.
