The festival, which will close on Saturday, is bringing big names to the village of Vinica near the Croatian border. Guano Apes with a few millions records sold worldwide and Asian Dub Fundation with their contagious energy will perform on Thursday.

The winners of 2014 Brit Award English drum and bass group Rudimental are coming to Slovenia as part of their worldwide tour. Music-lovers will have the opportunity of listening to their hits Waiting all Night and Feel the Love, as well as new singles like Bloodstream.

The festival will also feature two Serbian acts, MTV-awarded Gramophonedzie, who is best known for the single Why Don't You, which topped the club charts in 2010, and alternative rock band S.A.R.S., that is beating the records with the number of tickets sold across the former Yugoslavia.

Siddharta, Magnifico, Vlado Kreslin and Mali Bogovi, and Niet are among the acclaimed names of Slovenian popular music featured at the festival.

In addition to evening concerts, the festival will also keep the visitors busy during the day by offering rafting on the Kolpa river and panoramic helicopter rides, as well as a wide range of workshops, stand-up comedies, sport activities and games.

Schengenfest is regarded as one of the biggest musical festivals in the country. Since it was first held in 2008 it has attracted more than 200 music groups and singers from Slovenia and abroad.

Top names in the world of popular music, such as Laibach, Kaiser Chiefs, Morcheeba, 2Cellos, HIM, Die Antwoord, Skunk Anansie, Dubioza Kolektiv, Gentleman, Triggerfinger, Plavi orkestar, Parni valjak and Big Foot Mama have featured at the festival, which has boasted more than 20,000 visitors in recent years.

The festival's name was actually inspired by its location, since the camping site by the Kolpa river is situated on the border of the Schengen area with Croatia. The festival was first organised a few months after Slovenia joined the Schengen border-free area in 2007.
