Slovenia Qualify for Volleyball World League

This is a second major success for Slovenia this season after they secured a berth for the European Championships to be hosted by Bulgaria and Italy in October.

After beating Poland in the semi-finals, Slovenia headed confident to the final, dominating action throughout the game. None of the players stood out, each doing his bit in a compact team.

Slovenia won 12 out of as many matches in the European League, losing just one set to Belarus.

The success is largely be attributed to head coach Andrea Giani, the former Italian volleyball player, who set out clear goals for the season, believing in his team.

"Even before taking over, I saw great potential in the Slovenian players, players with good technique and desire to work hard. I used that, we really worked hard and it paid off," Giani commented after the match.

"We've built up our success match in match out, one victory into another. We have a team that follows its goals; not with words but with action in the court."

Applauding the team and the head coach, team captain Tine Urnaut looked ahead, saying the squad still had a lot of room to build on.

"This was just the first step, now we reckon we can make another one in stronger competition," he said, adding that Group 3 of the World League was not their final goal.
