Kauzer finished 0.01 second ahead of Mathieu Doby of Belgium and 0.02 seconds ahead of Lucien Delfour of Australia after the referees gave France's Vivien Colober 50 penalty seconds on examining a recording of his run.

This is the third overall World Cup victory for the 31-year-old following the feats in 2009 and 2011, even though he had not won a single World Cup race since 2013. It is his second podium this year after third spot in Slovakia in July.

"I had everything under control in the semis, I made one mistake. I knew where I can make up in the final... Unfortunately I touched a pole. But the boat ran smoothly," said Kauzer, adding he did knew he would win.

"This means a lot to me. I've proved it's old me again and that I can match anyone. I'm feeling well, which is the main thing."

Another Slovenian representative at the white-water Canoe Slalom tournament in Pau, Benjamin Savšek finished second in the overall canoe World Cup standings. Luka Božič placed 7th overall.
