This is the second medal for Slovenia at the championships, coming after Thursday's gold won by Tina Trstenjak in the women's 63 kg category.

The 24-year-old from Celje scored four wins before the semi-finals to beat the 2011 world champion Audrey Tcheumeo of France and qualify for the finals, where she lost to Mami Umeki of Japan.

Velenšek added to her bronze medal from the 2014 World Judo Championships in Chelyabinsk and increased Slovenia's total medal tally at world judo championships to ten.

Velenšek has three medals from the European Judo Championships, including silver from Budapest in 2013. She also won bronze at the recent European Games in Azerbaijan.
