The meteorological station there was opened today after renovation.

The Kredarica station is located 2,514 metres above sea level and weather measurements have been conducted there continuously since August 1954. The anniversary marks an important milestone in the Slovenian meteorology and an important contribution to the monitoring of climate change, the head of the meteorology department at the Environment Agency, Klemen Bergant, said.

Data on the weather recorded at Kredarica throughout the year help keep the public and mountain climbers informed of the weather conditions in the mountains while also helping to monitor climate change outside the urban environment, Bergant pointed out. The effect of climate change is particularly noticeable in the mountains, he explained. For the last decade, the meteorologists have been cooperating with the Slovenian Armed Forces in conducting the measurements, as data on weather in the mountains, especially in the winter, are also significant for activities of the army.

Defence Minister Andreja Katič and Environment Minister Irena Majcen signed a new agreement on operative cooperation between their ministries today.
