The annul meeting, organised by local tourism associations, which also provide for food, drink, culture and entertainment, first took place in 1979 when people living in the area were still divided by physical borders.

This has changed since Slovenia became a member of the Schengen Zone, but the meeting is still an occasion to remember history, to nurture old and forge new friendships.

It was also the 1,509-metre Tromeja hill that inspired a few years ago the yet-to-be-realised idea of the three countries together hosting the Winter Olympics.
