A large chunk of Primorsko was ceded by Italy to the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia under the Paris Peace Treaty, which took effect on 15 September 1947.

The treaty reunited the people of Primorsko with the rest of Slovenians as part of Yugoslavia, but an estimated 140,000 Slovenians remained outside the borders of the present-day Slovenia.

The main ceremony was held last week, today a local celebration is scheduled in Koper.

President Borut Pahor will join celebrations with an open day at the Presidential Palace and the awarding of a state order to the Trieste-based Slovenian minority newspaper Primorski dnevnik.
