The piece, staged in co-production with the Slovenian Chamber Music Theatre, is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII and Anne Frank's death and the centenary of Frid's birth.

The production will be on show at the new venue in the third basement of the Ljubljana opera house, designed for smaller chamber music and ballet projects.

The season at the main stage will be launched on 8 October with the opening night of Jacques Offenbach's operetta "Orpheus in the Underworld", directed by Vito Taufer.

Another three operas and two ballets will premiere at the national opera and ballet house in the 2015/16 season, SNG Opera in Balet Ljubljana officials told a news conference on Tuesday.

Verdi's "Othello" will be put on at Cankarjev dom in late January in a co-production with the country's leading arts centre featuring Jaroslav Kyzlink as conductor and Manfred Scweighkofler as director.

A new production of "The Marriage of Figaro", Mozart's comic opera, directed by Yulia Roschina and conducted by Marko Hribernik, is announced to open in March.

May will see the opening night of the Czech opera "Katya Kabanova", produced in cooperation with the Opera de Rennes from France and directed by Frank Van Laecke.

A double bill will introduce the ballet season in late October. "The Meat of the Heart/Cacti" combines the latest choreographies by Rosana Hribar and Gregor Luštek from Slovenia and Stockholm-born Alexander Ekman.

Boris Pasternak's "Doctor Zhivago", adapted for the ballet stage by Jiri and Otto Bubeniček to the music of Dmitri Shostakovich, will open in April.

One of the novelties this year is English subtitles, which are being introduced in response to growing numbers of foreign visitors to Ljubljana.
