The Cultural Quarter will cover roughly a square kilometre east of Tivoli Park.

The area is home to Moderna galerija, the National Gallery, the National Museum, the Natural History Museum, the SNG Opera and Ballet House, the International Centre of Graphic Arts and the Slovenian Writers' Association.

"This is a concentration that is crying out for the institutions to join forces," said Ivo Svetina, the head of the Slovenian Writers' Association, which launched the initiative.

For now four joint events are to be organised each year in the form of a day full of performances, exhibitions and talks, Svetina told the STA.

The first such event will be held today, starting with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the seven institutions in the afternoon and continuing with a tour of the institutions capped off by a concert in the evening.

Svetina sees the project as a form of cooperation in which the participating institutions will "truly enrich" each other, in the process generating added value for the public.
