The talks are expected to focus on the situation in the region, with an emphasis on the refugee crisis and EU enlargement.

Nikolić's visit to Slovenia is a return visit after Pahor visited Serbia in May 2014 as the first Slovenian president to pay an official visit to the former Yugoslav republic.

Pahor and Nikolić are expected to discuss topical issues, in particular the refugee crisis and the flow of refugees and migrants from the Middle East through the Balkans, which has affected both Serbia and Slovenia.

According to Pahor's office, the meeting is also important in view of the preparations for the next meeting of the Brdo Process of regional cooperation in the Western Balkans.

The process aims to encourage the heads of the state from the region to pay more attention to security, with an emphasis on the refugee crisis and efforts to combat radicalization in the region.

Nikolić will also be received on Thursday by parliamentary Speaker Milan Brglez and Prime Minister Miro Cerar.
