The Štanjel-born architect of Italian and Austrian descent designed an intricate water system for the garden that boasts a picturesque pond with a fontana.

The underground water system of canals, tanks and pipes is a rainwater collector that provided fresh water for the Ferrari villa.

The garden rich in water is considered very extraordinary in the the water-poor Kras region.

The EUR 20,000 restoration of the garden and the water system was carried out by the local municipality with the help of various donors.

"We restored the water system from 70 years ago. This really is a fantastic system, an urbanist feat by Fabiani, who steered rainwater from entire Štanjel into the holding tanks needed to water the garden and fill the pond," said Komen Mayor Marko Bandelli.
