Scheduled flights from Athens to Ljubljana are expected to be launched on 16 June 2016, and connect the Slovenian and Greek capitals twice a week - on Thursdays and Saturdays.

The portal noted in the report that the Jože Pučnik Airport and Athens had been recently announced by director of airport operator Aerodrom Ljubljana Zmago Skobir.

Aegean Airlines has also operated charter flights between Slovenia's second largest city Maribor and popular tourist destinations in Greece during summer seasons.

This is not the only new route to be introduced next year at the Ljubljana airport, as the Polish flag carrier LOT had announced new scheduled flights between Poland's capital Warsaw and Ljubljana five times a week, as of 1 March 2016.
