The funds will be intended for boosting of police presence on the Slovenian-Croatian border, improving reception capacities and accommodation costs for police officers coming from other EU member states.

The emergency aid comes from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (EUR 5.3m) and the Internal Security Fund (EUR 4.9m).

Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos explained that the emergency financing would help the Slovenian authorities better control the influx of migrants and take care of them for the benefit of all countries on the Balkan refugee route.
