The unveiling of the bust, created by sculptor and painter Irena Brunec-Tebi, was followed by an address from Grossmann's grandchildren and the organisers of the event.

Karol Grossmann (1864-1929) was a lawyer, translator, and an important figure in Slovenian literature and theatre. He began working with film and photography at the beginning of the 20th century.

In 1905, he filmed the first two Slovenian films, Dismissal from Mass in Ljutomer and Fair in Ljutomer, which earned him the title of the first Slovenian film-maker.

The town is also home to the Grossmann Fantastic Film and Wine Festival, which was launched in 2005 and is dedicated mostly to horror and fantasy films. Since 2010, it has been a part of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation.

The annual festival, which took place between 14 and 18 July this year, celebrated the 110th anniversary of the first Slovenian films. It mostly targets European films and guests and has been attended by many prominent film figures, such as Christopher Lee, Goran Marković, and Julian Richards.
