Samira Kentrić will make an appearance on Monday alongside the female authors of some of the key first works published by German authors this season, including Mirna Funk, Kat Kaufmann and Jackie Thomae.

Kentrić is the author of the critically acclaimed graphic novel Balkanalije, an account of the history of he family, which came to Slovenia in the 1970s.

On Tuesday singer-songwriter Vlado Kreslin and author Marko Sosič will stage a book and music evening dedicated to living along the border, an event that will also feature German-Hungarian author Terezia Mora.

Miha Mazzini and Andrej E. Skubic, who are among the most popular authors in Slovenia, will discuss love in times of neoliberalism with German author Silke Scheuermann on Wednesday.

On Saturday star philosopher Slavoj Žižek will take the stage along with his wife, the journalist and author Jela Krečič, for a debate on the birth of comedy.

The closing event of the festival on Sunday will feature authors from five countries including Drago Jančar, probably the best known contemporary Slovenian author.

The Slovenian events have been organised by the Slovenian Book Agency as part of Slovenia's efforts to secure the status of guest country at the Frankfurt Book Fair around 2020.

The Berlin event will also be an opportunity to forge ties with German publishers. Slovenian publishers will meet 20 German counterparts, editors and agents, and visit the publishing houses Aufbau, Berlin Verlag and Suhrkamp.
