The event is dedicated to "expand understanding" of a country in which freedom is not taken for granted, where people are forced to live behind walls and in exile, said the organisers.

This evening young Palestinian writer Widad Tamim, who currently lives in Slovenia, will debate Palestinian film at Pritličje bar in the centre of the city.

On Tuesday and Wednesday films by director Michel Khleifi will be screened at the Slovenian Cinematheque. A debate with the director will follow the film screening on Wednesday.

Next Monday Israeli journalist Gideon Levy will first give a lecture at the Ljubljana Faculty of Social Sciences on the role of Israeli media in the occupation, which will be followed by a debate with him at Cankarjev dom in the evening.

The series is organised by BDS Slovenija, a movement for Palestinians' rights, Zofijini ljubimci, a group of intellectuals, and the Student Sociological Society SocioKlub.

This is the fourth Cultural Embassy of Palestine. The first one emerged in 2012 as a response to Israel's Cultural Embassy in Maribor, which at the time was the European Capital of Culture.
