The institutions saw a total of 3.1 million visitors, the latest figures released by the Statistical Office show. A four percentage point rise was however recorded in the share of younger visitors, which amounted to 22% in 2014.

Museums and galleries exhibited more than four million artefacts last year, twice as many than in 2013. Almost half (48%) of these were artistic objects, followed by historical objects (22%), and archaeological findings (12%). The other objects came from the field of science, technology, and ethnology.

These institutions also increased their educational activities, giving around 11,000 workshops and seminars for children and youths along with more than 4,000 educational events for adults.

Community art centres meanwhile hosted over 12,000 events last year, about 1,000 more than in 2013. The centres counted an average of 254 visitors per event, a quarter of which were musical events including jazz, rock, and choir concerts.

These were followed by theatre and puppet shows (19%), film and video productions (18%), and art exhibitions (7%). The centres saw more than a million visitors attending their 172 festivals this year.
