Exhibition of Polish nativity scenes

Nov 21 2023 - Jan 28
Ljubljana

The Slovenian Ethnographic Museum is hosting a travelling exhibition showcasing different types of nativity scenes from Poland, as well as artistic representations of the Christ's birth by folk artists.

The exhibition spotlights the Krakow Nativity Scene, which typically features the local architecture. The tradition of the city's nativity scene making was listed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2018. The exhibition also features a film made in preparation for the nomination.

The exhibition presents nativity scenes as local curiosities, as folk art that provokes reflection on the modern world, as souvenirs, as well as puppet theatre.

The exhibition Polish Nativity Scene has been mounted by the National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw.
