Christmas lights switch-on

Ljubljana will welcome in the festive season by switching on its Christmas lights at a countdown ceremony in Prešeren Square at around 5pm.
The decorations include more than 50 kilometres of illuminations and garland lights and some 900 light objects with the main element being a flying saucer in Prešeren Square.
Curated by Urban Modic, this year's decoration is themed They Are Us and the flying saucer symbolizes different cultures coming together in peaceful and respectful way, city officials say.
Apart from ten decorated tall spruce trees, the streets in the heart of the city will also be dotted with 89 potted trees that will be planted in the woods after holidays.
A Christmas market will get under way in the central market area and at Breg, the riverside. A straw nativity scene will be on display there.
The Christmas season in Ljubljana will also feature a variety of events catering to various types of visitors, including St Nicholas's and Father Frost's parades, concerts and street theatre shows.
