The Celje fairgrounds will host the 47th beekeeping fair ApiSlovenija during the weekend on 16-17 March. Touted as Europe's largest beekeeping trade event, the fair will feature more than 50 exhibitors showcasing the latest equipment, materials and technologies in beekeeping and associated fields.

Experts and bee lovers will be able to take part in lectures and workshops. They will learn about stories from Italy, the honeycomb market, the risk of counterfeit honey and measures to establish quality control.

Discussions will also tackle the quality of wax in Slovenian apiaries and ways to improve it, how to ensure that bee colonies have quality queens, how to take care of bees in the new climatic conditions, the processing of wax and the use of bee products in apitherapy.

More than 11,000 beekeepers in Slovenia keep around 215,000 bee colonies, which makes the country the EU leader with almost five beekeepers per 1,000 inhabitants, Eurostat data shows.
