Triennial of Art and Environment
May 17 2024 - Jul 28 2024 Maribor
The 9th Triennial of Art and Environment (EKO), a major exhibition mounted by the Maribor Art Gallery, deals with the theme of fear related to climate change.
Running under the title Eyes in the Stone, the exhibition is on show at the Old Sanatorium, a modernist villa that used to house the first private hospital in Maribor, a children's hospital and the pulmonary unit of the community health centre.
It features 36 artists from the region, mostly Slovenia, Austria and Hungary, whose works respond to the menacing atmosphere in nature and society.
One of the artists, Ana Pečar based her work on a myth of Ajdovska Deklica or Heathen Maiden, whose face is believed to be depicted in the rock face of a mountain in NW Slovenia, and Golhorn, a mythological white chamois that had his realm on Mount Triglav. Heathen Maiden is one of the symbols of the triennial.
