Working-class film festival

Jun 27 - Jun 30
Hrastnik

The former mining town of Hrastnik will hold its 4th Kamerat festival, the only working class film festival in the country. France is the country in focus this year.

The festival will open with a concert by Laibach, an industrial band originating from the region, to mark the 10th and 90th anniversaries of miners' strikes in the Zasavje region.

The festival will see 26 films, including features, documentaries, shorts and animated films. They deal with worker rights, solidarity, camaraderie and a fight for a better future.

The screenings will be held in a mineshaft and a compressor house, and open-air events will be held in a "miners' colony", where the miners' families used to live.

Several French films will be screened, including Rien a Foutre by Emmanuel Marre and Julie Lecoustre, which was shown at the Cannes Film festival a few years ago.

Film screenings will also be held in other towns which pride themselves on industrial heritage, including Trbovlje, Idrija, Litija, Celje and Velenje.
