Franja Marathon

Jun 7 - Jun 9
Ljubljana, Cerkno

The Franja Marathon, Slovenia's biggest recreational cycling event, is taking place for the 43rd time on 9 June, taking riders from Ljubljana on a round trip to Cerkno in the west of the country and back.

Named after a hospital operated by the Partisan resistance movement during World War II near Cerkno, the marathon and accompanying events are expected to attract between 6,000 and 7,000 cyclists.

The first event will be the time trial on the route Ljubljana-Domžale-Ljubljana on 7 June, in which 300 cyclists from 17 countries will take part.

By competing in the time trial, the participants will have the chance to qualify for the annual world championship for amateur cyclists.

The Barjanka cycling event along the Ljubljana Marshes and cycling events for children will take place on 8 June.

The Franja Marathon is part of the Gran Fondo world series under the wing of the International Cycling Union.
