Speculum Artium festival

Sept 18 - Sept 21
Trbovlje

Twenty-seven artists from eleven countries will showcase their works at the Speculum Artium festival of new media art in the central Slovenian town of Trbovlje.

The works on show will invite visitors to actively participate, touch, test and actively help create the image of the festival, examining humans' attitude to technology and themselves, the organisers say.

Apart from Slovenian artists Jasna Hribernik, Valerie Wolf Gang, Tanja Vujinović and Nina Koželj, they also spotlit Rebecca Gischel and Claudia Reh from Germany, Christina Bodnarescu and George Urse and Oana Baluta from Romania, and Kristina Tica, a Serbian artist based in Linz, Austria.

Other artists come from Japan, Denmark, Spain, Columbia, the Netherlands, Croatia and Turkey.

Several universities will present their students' works - Kunstuniversitat from Linz, the School of Arts at the University of Nova Gorica, the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, and the University of Rijeka.

Local artists will be featured with works related to Trbovlje, a former mining town.

Simultaneously, the DigitalBigScreen 360 festival will take visitors into the world of art cinema on the big screen and with VR goggles, as more and more contemporary art video production takes place in a 360-degree environment.

There will be a number of accompanying events, such as round tables and meetings with guests, educational workshops, guided tours, and events for children.
