An exhibition at the Ljubljana City Museum marks the 40th anniversary of the LGBT movement in Slovenia by looking at LGBT spaces in the capital where the movement started in 1984.

The display is about brick-and-mortar spaces serving members of the community as well as about mental spaces as in activism and arts.

It also focuses on the people who created these spaces and the key events that affected the community such as the AIDS epidemic and the fight for LGBT rights.

It highlights that these spaces have been shaping the urban culture and social life of the Slovenian capital all along.

"In a way, we're also dealing with the presence of homophobia at different levels and how it has presented itself over the decades," the museum's curator Corinne Brenko says.

The exhibits come from various organisations or individuals that have either lent or donated them to the museum.
