Nov 8 2024 - Nov 16 2024
Maribor, Kras, Koper, Ljubljana

Festivities centred on good wine and food will be held around the country around St Martin's Day, observed on 11 November, as grape must officially becomes wine.

The biggest event will take place in Maribor. Held for the 39th year, the festival will run between 8 and 11 November at several venues, featuring some 70 local wineries and cuisine providers and live music.

The festival will open with an event in Koroška Street on Friday and Saturday featuring stalls selling young wine and local food and a musical programme.

The main event, featuring a traditional must baptism ceremony and a large party, will be held in Leon Štukelj Square on Monday, 11 November.

On Sunday, 10 November, the local tourism association will organise St Martin's fest in Malečnik, a village just east of Maribor.

Visitors to the Malečnik fest will be able to take free city bus services on lines No. 10 and 20 on Sunday, while all buses will run for free on Monday. For other details, click here.

St Martin's Festival in the winemaking region of Kras in the southwest will see more than 20 events between 2 and 11 November, including across the Slovenian-Italian border.

The festivities will culminate on Saturday, 9 November, with events in Štanijel, Sežana, Dutovlje, Pliskovica and Gorjansko, as well as run in Lipica and a visit to the Vilenica Cave.

About a hundred wineries and other providers will be featured, with 21 winemakers welcoming visitors to their wine cellars. Free bus services will be provided as well as free evening train rides from Štanjel to Sežana and Nova Gorica. For details, click here.

Ljubljana will hold its annual Wine Route on 9 November. The streets in the heart of the capital will be lined with stalls offering a variety of wines from all over the country, along with savoury and sweet culinary delights.

Wine samples will be available in exchange for coupons that can be purchased at info points along the route. These will also sell souvenir tasting glasses.

The seaside town of Koper will have its St Martin's Festival on 16 November. More than 30 wineries from the Slovenian Istria region and Italy's Friuli Venezia Giulia will be featured at the first Altroke St. Martin's Day celebration.

The event is taking place in four palaces, the Koper Regional Museum, Praetorian Palace, Gravisi Buttorai Palace, and Tiepolo Gravisi Palace, before wrapping in the Tito Square with an arrival of winemakers in vintage cars, a toast and live music.
