Immersive exhibition of Slovenian Impressionism
Nov 22 2024 - Oct 26 2025 Ljubljana
An immersive exhibition based on paintings by Slovenia's leading representatives of Impressionism is on display in the largest hall of Ljubljana Castle.
A three-dimensional video projection running daily until 26 October 2025 features the famous paintings by Rihard Jakopič, Ivan Grohar, Matija Jama and Matej Sternen.
The 15-minute projection takes the visitor through 16 of their works such as The Sower, The Red Parasol, The Bathers and The Circle Dance.
The painter's motifs come to life in an interplay of light and colour, accompanied by ambient sounds on some 1,000 square metres of walls, floors and vaults at Kazemate, the most recently renovated castle hall.
The National Gallery has contributed most of the digital reproductions of the paintings, while some have come from the Ljubljana Museum and Galleries and the Museum of Modern Art.
The visualised Impressionist art will be on show daily between 9am and 6pm.
Active at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the Impressionists formed the first influential fine art movement in Slovenia.
