Animateka festival

Dec 2 2024 - Dec 8 2024
Ljubljana

A selection of the best auteur animation production from around the world will be screened at the Slovenian Cinematheque and Kinodvor Cinema during the 21st edition of the Animateka festival.

Each year the festival also showcases a selection of animated feature films. This year, those include seven outstanding animated features, three of which are nominated for the European Film Award.

The oldest surviving animated feature film by Lotte Reiniger, The Adventures of Prince Achmed from 1926, will be screened as part of a historical retrospective dedicated to the film debuts of pioneers, accompanied with live music by Polona Janežič and Andrej Goričar.

The festival is structured around several sections, catering for adults and families with children.

The best new animated films from Central and Eastern Europe will be in the running for the Audience Award and the Jury Grand Prix. The Young Talent of Europe section features films by students of European academies and the Elephant section will see best animated films for children.

The extensive film programme of some 300 films is accompanied by the AnimatekaPRO platform at the Old Power Station, a competition programme of VR films at the Museum of Contemporary Art, exhibitions and a concert.
