Animateka festival
Dec 2 2024 - Dec 8 2024 Ljubljana
A selection of the best auteur animation production from around the world will be screened at the Slovenian Cinemtheque and Kinodvor Cinema during the 21st edition of the Animateka festival.
Each year the festival also showcases a selection of animated feature films. This year, those include seven outstanding animated features that will premiere in Slovenia, plus the oldest surviving animated feature film by Lotte Reiniger, The Adventures of Prince Achmed from 1926.
The silent classic is part of the Never Like the First Time, a historical retrospective dedicated to the film debuts of pioneers, accompanied with live music by Polona Janežič and Andrej Goričar.
The festival is structured around several sections, catering for adults and families with children.
The best new animated films from Central and Eastern Europe will be in the running for the Audience Award and the Jury Grand Prix.
The extensive film programme is accompanied by the AnimatekaPRO platform at the Old Power Station, a competition programme of VR films at the Museum of Contemporary Art, exhibitions and a concert.
