Premiere of Prometheus, a dance production
Jan 21 2025 - Jan 22 2025 Nova Gorica
Prometheus, a production by MN Dance Company featuring dancers from several European countries as well as New Zealand and Japan, will premiere at the SNG Nova Gorica Theatre on 21 January as part of the official programme of the 2025 European Capital of Culture with a rerun the next day.
The production was choreographed by Michal Rynia and Nastja Bremec Rynia, who also feature as dancers along with ten other dancers.
It was inspired by the myth of Prometheus, the Greek god of fire and the creator of humans from clay, and Franz Kafka's quote that the legend tries to explain the inexplicable.
"This inexplicability is the driving force that pulls us to explore more. During the show, you have a thousand questions about existence. The show is abstract, but in a way it is direct or narrative. It still allows for openness of interpretation," Nastja Bremec Rynia says.
During the creation process, the most important question was what the modern Prometheus can offer or steal from modern gods. "What would enrich and not hurt today's man, especially now, when there is a growing fear of the uncontrolled development of artificial intelligence," dramaturgue0 Ana Kržišnik Blažica says.
A co-production of SNG Nova Gorica, GO! 2025 - European Capital of Culture, and Ljubljana's Cankarjev Dom, the show about Prometheus is also about Pandora. They are like two sides of the same coin, the good and the bad, the entry and the exit points of humanity.
The dance production is part of the project Borderless Body, which will culminate in a new production in July at the Solkan quarry in July. Nastja Bremec Ryni would not want to reveal much about that production except that hers and Rynia's productions explore the theme of a borderless body.
