Fabula literary festival
Mar 6 2025 - Mar 21 2025 Celje, Ljubljana, Maribor
The Fabula festival of world literatures will bring five internationally acclaimed authors and two thinkers to Slovenia amid a series of events discussing ways to cope with distorted reality.
Introducing Celje as the main venue of the festival, along with Ljubljana and Maribor, the festival will feature a number of events in the main and accompanying programmes, as well as strands such as Fabula Hub hosting up-and-coming authors and Fabula selection of best fiction by Slovenian authors.
The main guests this year will be Japanese writer Yoko Tawada, award-winning British-German writer, publicist and activist Sharon Dodua Otoo, who has Ghanaian background, Mexican writer Guadalupe Nettel, Croatian author and screenwriter Dora Šustić, and up-an-coming Italian-Pakistani author Saif ur Rehman Raja.
Dodua Otoo will discuss her novel Adas Raum at the opening event at the Celje theatre on 6 March and a literary evening in Ljubljana's Cankarjev Dom on 7 March, with the other authors to follow later.
The festival will host two more guests in its humanism and theory section: American political scientist Francis Fukuyama will discuss identity and democracy in Ljubljana's Cankarjev Dom on 18 March, and Israeli philosopher Noam Yuran will talk about economic and cultural aspects of today's challenges there the next day, and in Maribor's UGM gallery on 20 February.
