Ljubljana Jazz Festival
Jul 2 2025 - Jul 5 2025 Ljubljana
The 66th edition of the Ljubljana Jazz Festival will spotlight the distinctive voices of prominent female protagonists of the contemporary jazz scene.
While a full programme is yet to be released, the names headlining the line-up include multidisciplinary artists Meshell Ndegeocello, Cécile McLorin Salvant and aja monet.
Ndegeocello, who won Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Jazz Album in 2024 and 2025, is due to perform at the opening concert at the Križanke open-air theatre on 2 July. She will present her latest project No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin, an in-depth tribute to the outspoken critic of systemic racism, author of iconic quotes and a universal guiding light to mark the centennial of his birth.
Singer, storyteller, composer and visual artist Cécile McLorin Salvant, the winner of three consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album, will make her debut in Ljubljana on 2 July.
Saxophonist David Murray, described by the festival as a doyen of avant-garde jazz, will perform with post-bop trio Tarbaby in an exclusive collaboration at Cankarjev Dom on 3 July.
Another engaged artist aja monet address the themes of injustice, persecution, resistance and systemic violence from East New York to Palestine, but also belonging, motherhood and notions of community. At a concert at Cankarjev Dom on 5 July she will present her debut album, when the poems do what they do, which has been described as a mind-altering spoken-word cry, encapsulating the vibrant essence of jazz.
