Nova Gorica and Gorizia will hold the second of the four mass events under the banner of the 2025 European Capital of Culture between 1 and 10 May, bringing together culture, sports and entertainment in the borderless area next to Europe Square between the two cities.

The event revives the tradition of a hike held in the 1970s and 1980s when thousands of people crossed the border once a year without being checked.

Hikers will be able to choose between the routes of different lengths, measuring 7, 12 or 16 km, as well as enjoy a diverse programme.

Many sports associations from both sides of the border will join the event, as well as delegations from sister city Klagenfurt, Austria and from Chemnitz, Germany, the other European Capital of Culture of 2025.

After the hike, a borderless party will feature Austrian electronic music duo Klangkarussel, Italian DJ Spiller, the Slovenian-Croatian DJ duo Vanillaz and Slovenian DJs Tim Urbanya and Roli along with up-and-coming DJs.

Several other events will follow over the next few days, such tournaments in 3x3 basketball, breakdance and 3v3 football, exhibition matches, workshops for children and a culinary and wine festival.
